The
Old Courthouse
This
Court House, the fifth for Jefferson County, was completed in 1860, nearly a
quarter century after it was begun by architect Gideon Shyrock. In
early years, the Court House contained many of the city government offices
until the new Town Hall was completed in 1878. The Court House even served to house the Union-loyal
Kentucky legislature briefly during
the Civil War, when the state was divided between the North and the
South. The building is located at 6th and Jefferson streets.
