Railroad
Stations
Two
large railroad stations served the city from the 1880s until the 1960s, when
railroad service all but vanished from Louisville. Central Station,
originally Union Depot, was at 7th and River (it was unfortunately
demolished to clear way for the even more unfortunate riverfront
expressway). Union Station at 10th and Broadway however still
survives, albeit in diminished capacity to its heyday in the 1920s.
After many years lapse, limited regular passenger service has at last
returned to Louisville at Union Station.
