Old
Louisville once had its share of Hotels and Motels. The Puritan, opened at
4th & Ormsby in 1917, was one of the most prestigious in the city. It
was a favorite of President Truman when he visited the city. In 1926, the
Mayflower opened next to the Puritan as another apartment hotel and restaurant,
(now the site of Bucks). The Cortlandt, on 4th near Kentucky was in
business at least by the 1930s. in the 1940s and 50s, a Victorian Old
Louisville home (since demolished) formed the entrance to Marquette Terrace at 3rd & Ormsby,
now the site of the Hildebrandt House.
